About Steven Thayer

Mr. Thayer serves as Chairman of the firm’s Commercial Practice Group which includes the firm’s Business & Corporate Services, Commercial & Residential Real Estate Services, and Sports & Entertainment Law Practice. As a founding Partner of the firm, Mr. Thayer also has broad experience in the firm’s other practice areas including the Advanced Planning & Family Office Practice and Tax Practice. His unique multidisciplinary background allows him to represent individuals, entrepreneurs, companies, and family offices with a view towards identifying issues and solving problems in each of the firm’s different practice areas.

His representative business clients include start-up companies, growing private companies, private equity funds, real estate and resort developers, and sports and entertainment clients. Mr. Thayer also represents affluent individuals and families with respect to their advanced planning matters, including core estate planning, asset protection planning, tax planning, and family office organization and restructuring.

Mr. Thayer earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics Degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Masters in Business Administration Degree with an emphasis in Managerial Accounting from DePaul University Graduate School of Business in Chicago, Illinois and a Juris Doctorate Degree from DePaul University College of Law (Business Law Journal). He is a member of the American, Illinois State, Iowa State, and Chicago Bar Associations. Mr. Thayer is also a licensed real estate broker, a registered title insurance agent, and a formerly licensed securities sales person under Series 63 with the National Association of Securities Dealers. He has been named to Leading Lawyers for the State of Illinois in two areas: 1. Trusts, Will and Estate Planning Law and 2. Real Estate Law, as well as to the Illinois Super Lawyers Magazine in 2007.

Mr. Thayer has been active in various civic organizations including the following: Hinsdale Zoning Board of Appeals, Hinsdale Village Caucus, Committee of 100 – Organization of Community Leaders, The Metropolitan Club, Chicago Illini Club, University of Illinois Foundation President’s Council and Loyalty Circle, Entrepreneurs Organization, YMCA Indian Guides Program, and the Sigma Chi Fraternity. In addition to serving in a leadership role with each of these organizations, Mr. Thayer actively contributes his time and resources to various charitable organizations, and continues to search for ways to contribute to the community.
